Introduction
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Government of Maharashtra, is the state’s principal regulatory authority dedicated to ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of food products, medicines, and cosmetics. Operating under the Department of Medical Education and Pharmaceuticals, FDA Maharashtra is responsible for implementing and enforcing key legislations, including:
- Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 & Rules, 1945
- Drug (Price Control) Order, 2013
- Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954
- Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 & Rules, 2011
With its headquarters at Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai, FDA Maharashtra has a robust presence across the state, with divisional and district-level offices ensuring effective enforcement of regulations. The Commissioner of FDA serves as the Food Safety Commissioner, overseeing a specialized team committed to protecting consumer interests by preventing the sale of substandard, misbranded, spurious, adulterated, or banned food and drug products.
