About Licensing/Registration :

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various Ministries and Departments. FSSAI has been created for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

Under this Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, Various central Acts like Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954, Fruit Products Order, 1955, Meat Food Products Order, 1973, Vegetable Oil Products (Control) Order, 1947, Edible Oils Packaging (Regulation) Order 1988, Solvent Extracted Oil, De- Oiled Meal and Edible Flour (Control) Order, 1967, Milk and Milk Products Order, 1992 etc has been repealed after commencement of FSS Act, 2006.

The Act also aims to establish a single reference point for all matters relating to food safety and standards, by moving from multi- level, multi- departmental control to a single line of command. The independent statutory authority – the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India with head office at Delhi. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the State Food Safety Authorities shall enforce various provisions of the Act.

FSSAI has been mandated with the following key objectives with reference to Registration and Licensing of Food Business Operators: along with Food Standards. • Framing of Regulations to lay down the Standards and guidelines in relation to articles of food and specifying appropriate system of enforcing various standards thus notified. • Laying down mechanisms and guidelines for accreditation of certification bodies engaged in certification of food safety management system for food businesses.

As per Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulation, 2011 Regulation 2.1 makes it mandatory for all Food Business Operators in the country to be registered or licensed in accordance with the procedures laid down in the regulation. Hence Licensing or Registration of Food Business Operators (FBOs) shall be an important activity under FSSAI 2006. All of these are covered under the Food Safety & Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) under deliberation.

In Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration is the Enforcing Authority for State and Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration has been notified as the State Food Safety Commissioner.

Submission of Online Application for Registration / License

1. Application should be submitted to the State Authority/Regional Office of Food Safety and Standards of India, within fifteen days from the date of submission of application online. (i.e.) If date of submission of application online is 18th May 2011, then the last date of submission of application along with fee and supportive documents is on or before 2nd June 2011.

2. Print out of Online Application Form is mandatory as part of the application submitted. Your application will not be accepted and processed without the Online Application Form.

3. For fees and supportive documents required to be submitted as part of the application, please refer to Fee structure and Documents Checklist links provided at login page.

(Note : This fascillity is availabel for Mumbai and Thane District only)

Submission of Application For Registration/License Manually

Manual Application are available in all District Offices.

Fill up either application A or B attach require documents.

Submit the application file along with necessary fee either cash/DD to concerned office in timing prescribed by that Office.

Obtain receipt and wait for Further Communication or License or Registration certificate.
